HOMICIDE UNIT INVESTIGATING FATAL SHOOTING IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Just after 12:40 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Audubon Avenue and College Street. Responding officers located an extensive crime scene. An unresponsive male – later identified as David Jones, 24, of Jersey City – was located at 1 College Street with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:35 a.m. A second individual, a 23-year-old Jersey City male, was located nearby with an apparent gunshot wound to an upper extremity. He is being treated for an injury that is not considered life-threatening at this time.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating the circumstances of this case.
